I've worked 30 hours a week since the beginning of this year, all while attending High School. I've pushed myself to my limits some weeks and didn't get nearly enough sleep. I don't always attend school, but I try my best to show up. It's very exhausting going to school and working almost everyday afterwards. Growing up definitely is difficult sometimes and many kids don't seem to realize that. They fantasize about having their own apartment and don't factor in the part where they're going to have to actually get a job and pay for it themselves.
My parents definitely gave me the push that I needed. I didn't grow up because I wanted to, I grew up because I had to. I'm proud of all the accomplishments I've made and I owe it all to my parents. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to work so often, but it really does feel good to know that I'm building my future already and that I have a strong head on my shoulders.
Knowing what it's really like to grow up and the responsibilities that are put on you is truly one of the most important things you can learn at this stage in life.
ReplyDeleteHey Jen,
ReplyDeleteJust read this post. Sounds like you do have a good head on your shoulders and an appreciation for hard work.
What do you want to do? Where do you want to go from here? Does it make you angry seeing other kids take what they have for granted?
Just curious...
Don't forget to put in a pic, link, video or graphic.

Great post Jen! It's so hard growing up, but when you apply the hard work and dedication like you have, you know it's worth it in the end. You work hard for everything in life and good things will keep coming to you if you do.
ReplyDeleteThis is really good, Jen! Although you are waaaay further ahead of me as far as being on your own, I can relate to what you're saying. I can't imagine going through everything you've dealt with, but you are definitely stronger for it! Keep up the hard work!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kayla about you being further ahead then we are but I can definitely relate! When I was little I was alwaysssssss wishing to be older but now that we are pretty much there, its kind of scary.... we shouldn't have wished those years away! I didn't realize how long you have been taking on some of these responsibilities that I'm just now starting to take on myself. You're a strong girl, Jen!
