Lucky "Gold-Digger" Pye
7/8/11 was the worst day of my life. My childhood dog was put to rest because of his old age and inability to get around on his own. My parents decided to take him in because if they didn't he was going to be put in the pound. We decided to name him Lucky because he was lucky to even be alive. Lucky was definitely a wild one... he'd run away if we weren't watching him closely enough. He was the best dog my family has ever had.
My mother came down with a chronic disease called diabetes and one night when she was asleep her blood sugar was really low... the weirdest thing occurred; Lucky woke my mom up in a panic! Usually dogs have to be trained in order to know when someone's blood sugar isn't functioning correctly, but somehow he knew. Everyone in my household were amazed with his unknown talent that he showed that night. If he never woke my mother from her sleep then I'm not sure if she'd still be here today.
He's been with my family through everything; including our move from North Carolina to Maine. When my sister, brother and I were younger my brother decided to give Lucky the nickname "Gold-Digger". As we got older and remembered all the special times we spent with lucky dancing to ACDC and going for walks outside, we realized that his life was quickly coming to a halt. We thought about how silly of a middle name Tyler had gave Lucky when we were younger and all the crazy times we had when my parents weren't home.
Our last few days left with Lucky in our lives were filled with tears and happiness at the same time. My family was upset that we were losing our dear animal that was so close to our hearts but happy because he wouldn't be suffering anymore. To this day I will never forget him, he's always on my mind.
